2011 Asian Pacific American Heritage Award
Emerging Leadership
Mayor Edwin Lee and the Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration Committee invite the public to submit nominations for the 2011 Asian Pacific American Heritage Awards. The annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Awards is one of the main events of San Francisco's official celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month during the month of May.AWARDS THEME
The Asian Pacific American Heritage Celebration Committee recognizes the tremendous role the media, traditional as well as news, plays in disseminating news and information about the Asian Pacific American community. These diverse forms of communication technologies offer opportunities for Asian Pacific Americans to be their own authors and reporters on local, national and international issues. And through their words and voices, we, as well as future generations, will be able to learn more about our community and connect with each other.
This year's APA Heritage Award for Emerging Leadership will honor an individual for his or her distinct achievements and community impact in the area of traditional and new media.
NOMINATION CRITERIA
This award will be presented to an Emerging Leader who has achieved measurable and distinct success in traditional and/or new media by:
- Providing a platform to promote communications and connections within an Asian Pacific America ethnic group or within the broader Asian Pacific American community;
- Providing a voice for Asian Pacific American community concerns and promoting understanding of issues important to the community; and
- Promoting civic engagement of Asian Pacific Americans.
Please note that while the nominee does not have to be a San Francisco resident, his or her work and achievement must clearly benefit the Asian Pacific American community in San Francisco.
