2005 Proclamation by Mayor Gavin Newsom 2006 Assembly Proclamation 2006 Proclamation by Mayor Gavin Newsom 2007 Proclamation by Mayor Gavin Newsom | ![]() WHEREAS, San Francisco continues to greatly benefit from the contributions of its diverse community and during this month, we proudly celebrate Asian Pacific Americans for their remarkable role in our City's development; and WHEREAS, Asian and Pacific Islanders constitute the second largest ethnic group in San Francisco--253,477 or 33% of the total population according to the 2003 United States Census; and WHEREAS, during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we celebrate the cultural traditions, history, ancestry, native languages, and unique experiences represented among the more than 30 ethnic groups from Asia and the Pacific found in San Francisco; and WHEREAS, to honor the achievements of Asian Pacific Americans, the United States Congress, by Public Law 102-450, has designated the month of May each year as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month; and WHEREAS, San Francisco is proud of its status as the United States' "Gateway to the Pacific," promoting cultural understanding and stimulating economic development with the Asian Pacific region and especially with our Sister Cities in Ho Chi Minh City, Manila, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai, Sydney and Taipei; now THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Gavin Newsom, Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco, in honor of the Asian Pacific American community, do hereby proclaim May 2005 as...
