2008 is a very special year in the history of Asian Pacific Americans in this country. In 1978, a new tradition was launched when a Joint Resolution was adopted by the United States Congress and signed into law by then President Jimmy Carter, proclaiming a period the first ten days in May to be Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week. Read more about history.

"In San Francisco, Asian Pacific Americans represent a third of the City's population and has been part of the fabric of the City for over a century. The Asian Pacific American community consists of diverse ethnic groups, each with its own history and cultural heritage to be cherished and preserved. And together, we are one community. We are proud of what we collectively represent and our contributions to this City, a grand gateway to the Pacific.

"The theme of the 30th anniversary celebration is Celebrate Heritage, Celebrate Legacy. We invite you to learn more about the unique cultures of and within the Asian Pacific American community and join us in this year's celebration."
